Bill passed by New York State Assembly could guarantee vegan meals to hospital patients
The New York State Assembly has passed a landmark Bill that could guarantee a plant-based meal option for all hospital patients, if it makes it past the state’s Senate.
The Bill, A04072, calls for hospitals to offer vegan options at every meal and snack. It also states that the plant-based options must be noted in writing and equal in price to animal-based options.
Famed plant-based doctor Neal Barnard took to Twitter to celebrate the Bill’s forward momentum.
“Big news from New York,” he wrote. “The State Assembly just passed a new Bill that would bring healthy, plant-based options to patients at every hospital in the state!”
California passed a similar Bill late last year, requiring hospitals in the state to provide vegan options to their patients by law — and, to be totally honest, doing exactly what most people would expect California to do.
Now, if someone could just get Texas on board, we’d really be in business.
