Alicia Silverstone says going vegan is more miracle than sacrifice
Plant-based actor Alicia Silverstone has said that, for her, going vegan was more miracle than sacrifice.
Appearing on the Beyond The Plate Podcast with Andrew Kaplan, the star dished on her animal-friendly lifestyle, family life and how she not only survives, but thrives on a plant-based diet. Among the topics discussed was Silverstone’s initial shift away from animal products, which she says came with surprises.
“I thought that I was giving up all good food,” she told Kaplan.
“I thought that I was giving up everything. I was just like ‘Oh well, here we go. I’m making this sacrifice’ but what happened was kind of a miracle.”
She went on to explain the massive impact the change had on her physical and mental wellbeing, which included such welcome side effects as weight loss, stronger nails, clear skin, and the ability to ditch her inhaler permanently.
Silverstone also shared the thought process that led to the change, which can be credited partially to her love for a dog named Samson. According to Silverstone, the connection she shared with her furry “buddy” made her question our treatment of other animals.
“They all have the same essential being, and need to live, and to be loved on,” she said.
“We’ve just sort of adapted our brains to think that dogs are different, but they’re not.”
Silverstone is not only an accomplished actor and longtime animal advocate, she’s also managed to author two books on plant-based living and collaborate on a range of vegan vitamins, all while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood.
That should serve as inspiration for those of us who go straight into potato mode as soon as work’s done for the day.
No, Netflix, we’re not “still watching”, thank you very much.
