Alicia Silverstone urges fans to ditch animal products to reduce carbon footprint

Actor and animal advocate Alicia Silverstone has taken to Instagram to urge her followers to drop animal products to reduce their carbon footprint.

The not-so- star did not mince her words when it came to relaying her (sometimes unpopular) point.

“Earth Day is just around the corner! I hope it’s not news to you that ditching animal products is one of the most powerful ways to reduce your carbon footprint and help heal the planet,” she wrote.

“Seriously – animal agriculture is the leading cause of #climatechange, deforestation, species extinction, water depletion, and ocean dead zones. Yet so many people are still consuming animal products! Why?!!”

With more than 880,000 followers, Alicia has the reach and the support that most vegan activists could only dream of. Her post has been liked almost 16,000 times. That said, feedback was not all positive.

“Man has been eating animals since the beginning of time,” wrote one user.

“I will continue that trend till the day i die… [sic]”

Athlete Dominick Thompson, on the other hand, was in Alicia’s corner — which is great for her because, judging by his pictures, he’s the kind of guy you’d want on your side.

“She’s right! We have only one home,” he wrote.

“Let’s love it unconditionally and take care of it! Please consider going vegan, for your health, for our beautiful planet and more importantly, for the animals.”

Anyone crazy enough to break some basic habits and join Alicia in her fight to combat environmental devastation can leave a comment on her post here, or take the week-long VegPledge she promotes here.
