American Idol judge Simon Cowell says he’s en route to a fully plant-based diet
Simon Cowell has officially announced that he’s making the switch to a plant-based diet and, while we haven’t seen pigs fly yet, we’re starting to expect that that’s just around the corner.
Having risen to household-name fame through his scathing critiques of competitors, it may come as a surprise that Cowell would make the switch to a compassionate diet — but his motives weren’t purely altruistic.
As an allergy sufferer, his health was the number-one consideration in his lifestyle change and, while he has yet to cast fish aside entirely, he’s already reporting major health improvements.
“It has helped me sleep and I wake up feeling less tired,” he told
“I noticed a massive difference in how I felt in about a week.”
That said, he was also (predictably) happy to reap the aesthetic awards.
“If I was on a one to 10 scale of being handsome, I was an eight and now I’ve gone to an 11,” he joked.
Hey, whatever works — but the pursuit of good looks and a clean bill of health can prompt full-on vegans to question one’s resolve to stick to lifestyle changes. While Cowell’s long-term commitment is as yet undetermined, he says the change wasn’t much of a challenge.
“It was way easier than you may think,” he told
“Like, I used to have yoghurt in the morning and I changed it to almond-milk yoghurts. I have almond milk in my tea.”
He said also that he’s found the process “quite enjoyable”. Really. So there you have it folks, eating plant-based is not so bad — straight from the mouth of Simon Cowell, of all people.
And hey, if that doesn’t work, there’s always vegan junk food.
