Filmmaker Kevin Smith says it’s compassion that’s keeping him vegan
Filmmaker Kevin Smith has said that, while he originally went vegan for health reasons, it’s compassion that has made the change stick.
The star spilled the beans on his plant-based lifestyle in a video shared by animal protection organization Mercy for Animals yesterday, which also featured his vegan daughter Harley Quinn. Yes, like the comic books. This is Kevin Smith we’re talking about.
Smith shared how what started as a health pursuit quickly turned into something more altruistic, and why he found himself sticking with plants after a 50-pound weight loss and massive health improvements.
“Suddenly, you find yourself less about, you know, my heart, this is about my health, and more about oh, I like that I’m this person. I like what it stands for,” he said.
“I like that it’s compassionate.”
He says when it comes to food made from animals, his perspective has entirely changed — a shift, which was a long time coming.
“I don’t need it,” he said.
“There’s a lot of other things to eat.”
In the video, Smith credits his daughter not only with changing his perspective, but also saving his life, as she was the driving force behind his shift to a plant-based diet.
Well, looks like they’re even now. Seems like she kind of owed him one after he gave her the coolest name ever and all.
